Avis Kent, 67, Fargo, formerly of Sawyer, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012.

She was born Oct. 7, 1944, the daughter of Clarence O. and Dorothy (Holden) Brekke in Minot. She was raised on the family farm near Tagus. She grew up enjoying riding horses and playing with her late cousin, Marsha. She attended Tagus grade school and graduated from Berthold High School in 1962.

She married Albert Lindahl in 1963. They moved to Sawyer, where they purchased a farm and raised three children, Jackie, Michelle and Gavin. They later divorced.

Avis graduated from Minot State University with a degree in elementary education and taught third grade at Sawyer Public School for many years.

She moved to Fargo in 2002, and began substitute teaching at many of the area schools, which she enjoyed immensely.

She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, reading, collecting antiques and books. Avis was known as a real "people person" and a true friend to many.

Avis is survived by her three children, Jackie Hacker, Carrollton, Texas, Michelle Danielson (Scott), Parker, Colo., Gavin Lindahl, Fargo; three grandchildren, Brandon and Tori Hacker, of Carrollton, Kasidee Lindahl, of Shelly, Minn.; two half brothers, Clarence, Minot, Oakley, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo.

Interment will be at St. Olaf Cemetery in Tagus.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 20, 2012, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
