FARGO (AP) - A St. Michael man has been ordered to pay more than $41,000 in restitution for embezzling money from two organizations on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that 39-year-old Raymond Jetty III also was sentenced to two years of probation in U.S. District Court in Fargo on Wednesday.
The Department of Justice says Jetty pleaded guilty Dec. 12 to embezzling $35,412.77 from the tribe's Vocational Rehabilitation Program. His wife was employed in the program, and he allowed her to sign his name to illegally obtain benefits.
Jetty also was charged with theft and embezzlement from the tribe's Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program, illegally gaining more than $5,600 in benefits by failing to report income on the application.
