A Sawyer man was killed Tuesday when the tractor-trailer he was driving was struck by a train in Sawyer. The North Dakota Highway Patrol said Kevin Sys, 50, failed to yield to the train at the crossing around 12:30 p.m. The chassis of the tractor was pushed about one-half mile by the train. The cab detached from the chassis and was pushed one-quarter mile, coming to rest between a detached train car and the train. The chassis and fuel tank also ignited and burned, with the fire being extinguished by Velva and Sawyer fire units.
