MOHALL Dorothy M. Aalund, 89, Bottineau, formerly of Mohall, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Bottineau Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
She was born April 22, 1922, near Kenmare, to Albin and Augusta (Hass) Broden. She graduated from Mohall High School in 1940. She worked at Trutna's Department Store in Mohall and later taught at the Hamlet Township School. Once her children were in school, she returned to Trutna's and later Hill's Department Store.
Dorothy married Selmer Aalund on June 7, 1946, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Mohall. They farmed in Hamlet Township for many years. Selmer died Dec. 25, 1984.
Dorothy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, Order of Eastern Star and the Hamlet Homemakers. She volunteered many hours to the Friendly Neighbors Senior Citizens Center, the Zion Lutheran Church, Meals-on-Wheels, Renville County Foot Care, and the Renville County Museum.
Dorothy moved to Oak Manor Apartments in Bottineau in 2008, where she made new friends and improved her whist game.
Family: children, Sandra (Rod) Sautter, San Antonio, Texas, Carol Hajicek, Larimore, and Curtis (Renee) Aalund, Bottineau; grandchildren, Maggie Aalund, Brianne Meier, Whitney Aalund, Cory Hajicek and Samantha Aalund; great-grandchildren, Kenna Aalund and Madison Meier; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was known as Grandma to many others.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Carl, Albin Jr., Robert, Shirley Morin, Ronald and an infant sister.
Funeral: Tuesday, March 13, at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall.
Burial: Mohall Community Cemetery.
Family Service: Today, at 7 p.m., at the church.
Visitation: Today, noon to 5 p.m., at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall.
