For every minute on the clock, there is a woman who loses her life to heart disease.
Janet Maxson, a nurse practitioner with Trinity Health, states that 90 percent of women in North Dakota have one or more risk factors of developing heart disease, the number one killer of women.

On Thursday, Maxson will be hosting a free program on women and heart disease, at which time she will discuss risk factors associated with heart disease and the steps that women can take to minimize their chances of developing a cardiovascular illness.

Maxson, who has more than 20 years of experience caring for patients in the Minot area, was a past national board member of the American Heart Association and past recipient of the organization's Cardiovascular Leadership Award.
