Minot physician assistant earns distinction
A physician assistant based in Minot is the first PA in the nation to earn a specialty credential under a new program of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Donna Verhasselt, a PA-C with Trinity Orthopedic Associates, received the Certificate of Added Qualification in the specialty of orthopedics.
"This is a voluntary program, but it pleases me to be among the first to achieve this added qualification so I can serve as a more effective provider for our patients," Verhasselt said in a press release issued by Trinity Health.
With this certification, Verhasselt can now conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive healthcare, assist in surgery, perform a variety of procedures and write prescriptions, as well as practice medicine with physician supervision.
Five of her nine years of experience as a physician assistant has been with Trinity Health.
