In your Sunday paper of Jan. 22 there was an article by Bruce Brooks with the title of "Argument is still false."
When my wife and I came to this country in the 1960s as legal immigrants we had no children and we never had any. We never went to school here but all those years we had to pay property taxes including school taxes, and those are the biggest part of your tax bill.
I don't mind paying my share for street and road maintenance, police and other service. People who don't have a car pay no license plate fee and people who don't fish and hunt don't have to purchase a license, so they pay no money to the Fish & Game Department.
So why should seniors have to pay school taxes when we have no kids in school? That should stop. Also, school taxes are too high.
So much money is wasted on sports, etc., like Minot State University playing a game in Anchorage, Alaska. Where is that money coming from? Also, the school buses are used for sports events. Let the parents pay for this.
I've got the feeling that high schools and universities in North Dakota and in the rest of this country are nothing more than sports academies.
I'd also like to add that the summer vacations are way too long. Put some more days in the school year so we get students who can compete academically with the rest of the world.
