Public comment on post office closures open until Oct. 27

October 20, 2011
By JILL SCHRAMM - Staff Writer (jschramm@minotdailynews.com) , Minot Daily News

The list of area post offices being investigated for closure includes Antler, Arnegard, Bantry, Benedict, Columbus, Epping, Fortuna, Granville, Grassy Butte, Karlsruhe, Kramer, Mandaree, Maxbass, McGregor, Mercer, Roseglen, Sawyer, Tolley, Trenton, Upham, Voltaire and Wildrose.

Public hearings have been held and comment periods are open until Oct. 27 in Voltaire, Karlsruhe and Sawyer and until November or early December for other communities.

Once comments close, the Postal Service will review the findings a process that could take two or three weeks, said postal spokesman Peter Nowacki, Minneapolis. If postal authorities decide to close an office, that decision is posted in the office for 30 days, during which time any customer can appeal. A post office would not close until at least 60 days after the notice to close was posted.
