September 19, 2011
By DAILY NEWS STAFF , Minot Daily News

BISMARCK Mikey Hoeven, former first lady of North Dakota, continues to make women's health issues a priority as she hosts the "Women's Wellness Expo" (previously the "Women's Health Summit") on Oct. 10 in the Best Western Ramkota Hotel.

This year's event, titled "Where Do We Grow From Here?" will provide a positive, uplifting experience to help the women of North Dakota heal and grow emotionally, spiritually and physically following the devastating flood-related challenges that have plagued North Dakota over the past months.

Featured speakers will be Michelle May, who will open the day with the powerful alternative of ending our love-hate relationship with food and will talk about eating mindfully and joyfully. She is the author of the book "Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat."

Susan Sparks, author of "Laugh Your Way to Grace" will reveal the ways in which humor can be the "ark" that carries us when tragedy hits. The result is laughter as a spiritual healing path.

The closing keynote speaker, Chris Linnares, international author of the award winning book "Beautiful Women of North Dakota" and founder of "Diva Dance" will share her pioneering work and inspiring life story as she has found exercise to be the best remedy to improve mental health.

The past few months have been very challenging for so many women across the region. The Women's Wellness Expo is designed to give attendees a rejuvenating break and give them strategies to cope with stress while offering tips for overall health and well-being.
