Area students won awards at the state class B speech tournament held in Mandan on April 30. Area winners follow:

Dramatic interpretation: James Cavo, Washburn, second place; Scarlett Tweeten, Washburn, eighth place.

Speech to entertain: Janessa Veach, Rugby, seventh place; Tyler Rygg, Harvey, eighth place.

Extemporaneous programmed reading: Kendra Perdue, Ray, third place.

Extemporaneous interpretation: Jonathan Price, Garrison-Max, second place; Kendra Enget, Stanley-Powers Lake, sixth place; Brandt Vernon, Hazen, seventh place.

Humorous duo: Abby Black and Megan Telehey, Trinity Christian of Williston, fourth place; Shawn Wagner and Jonathan Enget, Beulah, fifth place; Halle Schumann and Sam Zelinski, sixth place; Sarah Telehey and Zach Haase, Trinity Christian of Williston, seventh place; Schyler Abuhl and Olivia Abuhl, Trinity Christian of Williston, eighth place.

Morgan Pandolfo and McKenzie Erikson of Bowbells/Burke Central placed seventh in the serious duo category at the state Class B speech meet. McKenzie Erikson's name was incorrect in Tuesday's edition of The Minot Daily News due to incorrect information provided by the school. The names of three Bowbells-Burke Central winners were inadvertently omitted from the list: Brady Ganskop of Bowbells-Burke Central placed second in Speech to Entertain, Kalene Jepsen of Bowbells-Burke Central placed fourth in poetry; and Taylor Peterson of Bowbells-Burke Central placed eighth in storytelling.
