Julia Mehlhoff, Bottineau, will be speaking on "A Few of My Favorite Things" Thursday at 7 p.m. at a meeting of the Minot Prairie Quilt Guild in the Fellowship Hall at Vincent United Methodist Church in Minot.
As part of her presentation, Mehlhoff will discuss some of the things that first piqued her interest in quilting as well as what keeps her going. Her interests include needle-turn applique, hand applique, redwork, and hand-quilting.
She will share some of the things she has made and some things she has collected which includes antique and vintage sewing machines, handmade reproduction items, and quilts.

Mehlhoff enjoys a variety of quilting techniques. She quilts for herself and is self-taught. Her items are rarely on display. She notes that she is not a professional quilter, nor a celebrity quilter just a regular gal who enjoys a variety of quilting techniques and surrounds herself with wonderful friends and things that inspire her.
Mehlhoff works as a paralegal. She lives in northern North Dakota with her husband of 30-plus years. Together they share a sled dog team of six and one long-time companion, an 11-year-old cat. Prior to transferring with her husband to North Dakota in 2007, she had a quilting studio in Wyoming.
Mehlhoff takes on all kinds of projects, she teaches one-on-one and in workshop settings with up to 20 students at a time.
On Thursday she plans to share some of her antique and vintage sewing machines, some handmade reproduction items, some quilts, and whatever else will fit in her Avalanche.
