Minot State University Percussion and Brass Ensembles will present a concert Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall.
The program includes selections by the Percussion Ensemble, Marimba Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble and Brass Ensemble. The percussion groups are directed by Avis Veikley, while the brass groups by Mark Boren.
"We have programmed percussion music that runs the gamut -- from traditional rudimental drumming to concert-style compositions written specifically for percussion," Veikley said. "Our two Marimba Ensemble selections are borrowed from the string quartet literature -- Samuel Barber's 'Adagio,' and the second movement from Haydn's 'Emperor' quartet. Both are gorgeous pieces, and sound wonderful on marimba."
The Percussion Ensemble will also premiere an original composition by Veikley titled "Quartet for Five Instruments."
Brass selections include a trumpet fanfare and a contemporary composition in theme and variations for mixed brass ensemble.
The concert is free and open to the public.
