Minot State University's Homecoming Week will be Sept. 19-25. The theme this year is "Paint the Town Red!"
The week will start with a 12:30 p.m. golf tournament Sept. 19. The tournament is sponsored by Delta Epsilon Chi and will be held at the Apple Grove Golf Course.
On Sept. 20, students will vote for the homecoming king and queen in the Quad. Austin Kyle will perform there at noon. Students from more than 25 student organizations put up candidates for homecoming royalty. The traditional Homecoming Community Bonfire will be at the MSU Dorm north parking lot at 8:30 p.m. The campus and community are welcome to attend. A casino night event for students in the Beaver Dam will be held at 9 p.m. Sept. 20.
Voting for homecoming king and queen will continue in the Quad Sept. 21. Jazmine Wolff will perform at noon there. The coronation will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 21, with emcee and musician Matt Santry performing. The Homecoming Coronation Dance will be held from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the North Dakota State Fair Center's Theater Room. The band 8th hour will entertain.
Acoustic artist Dennis Florine will entertain MSU students at noon Sept. 22 in the Quad area and there will be free food at lunchtime. A President's Club Luncheon will be hosted that day by the Minot State University Development Foundation to honor donors to the university.
The annual MSU Community Block Party will be held on the lawn in front of Old Main from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 22. The block party will include campus tours, appearances from MSU Beaver student athletes, carnival games with prizes, inflated slides, obstacle courses, a Corvette Club and Dakota Cruisers classic car display and music by local bands. A free dinner will be available while it lasts. Registration for the Beaver 5K Run/Walk will be at 5 p.m. or by calling Stu Melby, head cross country/track and field coach, in advance. The race, which is a fundraiser for athletic teams, will begin at 6 p.m. The block party is co-sponsored by the Minot Young Professional Network and Augustana Lutheran Church. The public is invited.
Following the block party, hypnotist Jim Wand will perform at 8:30 p.m. in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall. The event is also free and open to students and the public.
On Sept. 23, students will participate in a noontime text scavenger hunt and an '80s-themed dance at the Flickertail Gardens on the fairgrounds. In the evening, the MSU Alumni Association's Golden awards banquet will be held in the MSU Conference Center at 6 p.m. Recipients Jon Backes, Ted Brinkman and Wes Luther and Young Alumni Achievement Award winner Scott Louser will be honored.
On Sept. 24, student events include karaoke at 11 a.m. in the Beaver Dam and a Comedy Variety Game Show starting at 8 p.m.
The Homecoming Alumni Reunion, to which all MSU alumni and friends of the university are invited, will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Grand International Inn. This year, reunion groups include the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, the Vagabonds and all women's athletic team.
The Homecoming Parade will start at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 25 by the Wells Fargo building in downtown Minot. The parade route will run north on Main Street, west on Central Avenue, north on Broadway to 11th Avenue, then west to the Dome parking lot. A tailgate party, with free lunch for everyone, will follow in the east lot of the Dome. The Beavers face off against Valley City State University at Herb Parker Stadium at 1:30 p.m. During halftime, the homecoming royalty, Athletic Hall of Fame inductees and all athletic women's teams will be introduced. A post-game alumni gathering will convene at the Barley Pop at 5 p.m.
Most activities are free with MSU student and staff identification. Guests may be charged a nominal fee.
