Operations at Donnybrook Post Office suspended

August 19, 2010
By JILL SCHRAMM

DONNYBROOK Lack of staffing prompted the U.S. Postal Service to place the Donnybrook post office under an emergency suspension Aug. 14. The office remains closed indefinitely.

U.S. Postal Service spokesman Pete Nowacki in Minneapolis said the Donnybrook post office had no one to maintain operations after the officer in charge resigned.

"We were not able to find a current postal employee who was qualified, available and wanted the job at this time," Nowacki said.

The officer in charge had been serving Donnybrook for several weeks due to a vacancy in the postmaster position.

The 39 boxholders now are being served by a rural carrier out of Carpio. They had the option of setting up mailboxes or renting a box at another post office.

The office previously kept hours Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

Nowacki said the postal service continues the search for a postmaster.

"At this time, we are not moving to close the office," he said.

The postal service will hold a public meeting on the post office situation Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Carpio Senior Citizens Center.
