Aaron Vibeto, Minot's Ward 5 alderman, has announced he will run for municipal judge.
"While I am enjoying serving the people of the 5th Ward and Minot as a councilman, I feel that I can better serve the Minot community as municipal judge. Minot is a great community, and I look forward to serving it in the years to come," he said.
If elected, he would step down from the council. He will face incumbent judge Mark Rasmuson, who has announced he is seeking re-election.
Vibeto, who was elected to the council in 2008, holds a law degree from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., and a bachelor's degree from North Dakota State University in Fargo. He owns Vibeto Law Office PC, which specializes in oil and gas, estate planning and real estate issues. He previously has worked as a corporate land and legal anlayst, an attorney with Legal Services of North Dakota and an unemployment law judge.
He is a member of the North Dakota and Ward County Bar associations. A Minot native, he served with the North Dakota Air National Guard, deploying overseas on various construction projects.
Vibeto said it is with the encouragement of community members that he has decided to run for judge. The judgeship would give him the best opportunity to make Minot the best place it can be, he said.
