Florain V. Hagen, 84, of Bismarck, N.D., died Feb. 3, 2010, in a Bismarck care center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bismarck Funeral Home, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Samuelson officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, N.D.
Florain was born Feb. 14, 1925, to Louis and Lottie (Granrud) Nygaard on a farmstead near Portal, N.D. She married Clarence Hagen on Oct. 11, 1943, in Plentywood, Mont., and together lived in various towns, which included Columbus, N.D., until 1965, Hazen, N.D., until 1992, Bowbells, N.D., until January 2008, and Edgewood Vista and St. Vincent's Care Center.
She enjoyed quilting and reading but most importantly she loved spending time with her family. Florain donated quilts to churches in Hazen and Bowbells for many years and was a member of English Lutheran Church in Hazen.
She is survived by: her two daughters and three sons-in law, Sharon (Larry) Swenson, of Bowbells, Susan (Syver) Vinje, of Bismarck, and John Mulder, of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren, Ginger (Marc) Klein, John (Dawn) Mulder, Rachelle (Vince) Smith, Wayde Swenson, Keith Swenson and Aaron Vinje; nine great-grandchildren, Maxwell Woida, Carolyn Woida, Zachary Klein, Zoe Klein, Ashton Mulder, Riley Mulder, Cayden Smith, Mckenna Smith and Logan Vinje; two sisters, Lorain (Jim) Taylor of Auburn, Wash., MaryLou Hoff, of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Lloyd Nygaard, of Columbus, N.D., and Floyd (Fay) Nygaard, of Mesa, Ariz.; four sisters-in-law, Mabel Falck, of Lignite, N.D., Phyllis Hagen, of Northwood, N.D., Mary Hagen, of Columbus, N.D., Arlene Clark, of Newberg, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; one daughter, Beverly Mulder; one son, David Hagen; her parents, Louis and Lottie; one brother, Lawrence Nygaard; and one sister, Florence Porter.
