Evelyn Ege

Evelyn Ege, 84, of Minot, N.D., formerly of Stanley, N.D., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, in a Minot hospital.

She was born Aug. 14, 1925, to Earl and Inga (Rasmussen) Williams on their farm near Doyon, N.D. Evelyn was confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Doyon. She graduated from Doyon High School in 1943. She attended Minot State Teachers College, Minot. She toured Europe for eight weeks in the summer of 1952 with a Minot college group. Evelyn taught school in several North Dakota towns, including Bartlett, Belcourt, Granville, Sarles, Larimore, Carson and in Stanley from 1963 until she retired from teaching in 1976.

Evelyn married Alven Ege of Lostwood, N.D., on July 8, 1954, at Devils Lake, N.D. They lived on a farm near Lunds Valley, N.D., until moving to Stanley in 1962. After retiring from teaching, Evelyn worked for a time at Federal Crop Insurance. She was a charter member of Our Saviors Free Lutheran Church in Stanley and was a very active member. She served as church treasurer and was president and vice president of its women's group, and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Banner and Altar Committee, the church choir, and kept up their bulletin boards and scrapbooks. Evelyn was a Lutheran Brotherhood Communicator and Thrivent member. She hosted the Good News Club for children for many years. She was a member of the Stanley Area Retired Teachers Association and the Stanley Golden Age Club.

Evelyn's hobbies included collecting pictures, scrapbooking, embroidery, crocheting, knitting and quilting. Evelyn and Alven moved to the Wellington Assisted Living in Minot in January 2008.

Survivors include: husband, Alven, of Minot; son, Earl, Williston, N.D.; daughter, Linda (Kenny) Hanson, Minot; granddaughter, Kristy Hanson; sister, Gertrude Whalen, Poway, Calif.; one neice and four nephews; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Inga; sister, Jean Williams; brother, Arnold Williams; seven uncles and four aunts.

Evelyn's funeral service: Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Our Savior's Free Lutheran Church, Stanley.

Burial: Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Lunds Valley.

Visitation: Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.

Memorials: Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Free Lutheran Church, Stanley.
