Raymond Roggenbuck
Sept. 9, 1923-Dec. 6, 2009Raymond Nicholas Roggenbuck, 86, Minot, and formerly of Carpio, died of a heart attack on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, in a Minot hospital.
Ray was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Carpio, to Herman and Lidwina (Rumenap) Roggenbuck, and was reared on the family farm near Carpio. He attended rural schools, where he maintained a perfect attendance record. As a young adult, Ray was employed at home on the family farm.
Ray married Lila Banna on Jan. 9, 1945, in Havre, Mont., just prior to entering the Army. After training at Fort Hood, Texas, he served in the Signal Corps at Scofield Barracks, Hawaii, until his honorable discharge on July 25, 1945. He returned to North Dakota and he and Lila made their home in Minot. Ray was employed by the Great Northern Railroad, the International Harvester Co., and the Minot Implement dealership. He was employed for several years as a truck driver for Greslivold Truck Line before having a 23-year career with Interstate Brands Inc. (Sweetheart Bakery), from which he retired in 1985.
Ray was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot American Legion Post No. 26 and its Last Man's Club, and the Disabled American Veterans organization. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and Teamsters Union Local No. 74. Ray especially enjoyed traveling, camping, woodworking, fishing and hunting.
Ray's loving family includes: his wife of 64 years, Lila; children, Robert (Betty) Roggenbuck of Binford, Linda (Henry) Patrick of Newport, Wash., Daniel (Sandra) Roggenbuck of Fairfax, Va., Laurie (Richard) Pinnell of Chico, Calif., and Dawn (Jason) Werre of Minot; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandsons, Brandon Turner and Hunter Patrick; an infant brother; sisters, Mathilda (John) Schmitz, Helen (Milton) Dillon, Clara (Ted) Bly, Ida (Len) Brown, Frances Roggenbuck, Cecelia (Bill) O'Leary, and Irene (Jack) Anderson; and brothers, Albert (Agnes) Roggenbuck and Hank (Mary) Roggenbuck.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil prayer service: Thursday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Foxholm.
Visitation: Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
