Myrtle Anderson

Myrtle C. Anderson, 92, from Powers Lake, died Thursday, December 3, 2009, in a Minot hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Powers Lake. Visitation is today, December 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church followed by a family gathering at 7 p.m. Burial is in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Lunds Valley.

Myrtle was born March 27, 1917, at rural Lunds Valley to Melvin and Cora (Huseby) Torkelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church at Lunds Valley and graduated from Lunds Valley High School.

Myrtle married Henry A. Anderson in Stanley on June 30, 1939. They farmed in James Hill Township, north of Stanley, until they retired in 1967 and moved to Powers Lake.

Myrtle was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and was active in the Powers Lake Senior Citizens.

While raising their family Myrtle belonged to the Northside Sewing Club, was a 4-H club leader and treasurer of the rural school district for many years.

Myrtle will be remembered for her kind and gentle way and her sense of humor. Family and friends were most important to her. She lived independently in her apartment and kept her mind very alert doing crossword puzzles, reading her books and embroidering. Myrtle hand made a treasured quilt for each daughter.

Myrtle is survived by: daughters, Lois Rothe of Greeley, Colo., Donna (Clint) Lindberg of Powers Lake, N.D., Janice (Bruce) Henderson of Bottineau, N.D., and Margaret (Clay) Stanley of Greeley, Colo.; son-in-law, Richard Furtak, Woodland Park, Colo.; 8 grandchildren; 2 stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 4 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hank; brother, Kenneth Torkelson; daughter, Dorothy Furtak; and son-in-law Ted Rothe.
