Ellsworth ‘Al’ Severson
May 5, 1926-Nov. 24, 2009Ellsworth Arthur "Al" Severson, 83, passed away at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Wash., on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009.
Al was born to Edward and Amanda Severson on May 5, 1926, in Finley, N.D. The youngest of 12 children, he was the last to pass.
He was reared and schooled in the Velva-Bergen area of North Dakota and at age 17 joined the Navy and served in the Pacific Fleet during World War II. His ship was the USS Ticonderoga CV14 and he was onboard during the surrender signing in Tokyo Bay. He always felt proud and privileged to serve his country. He was discharged from the Navy on June 18, 1946. After discharge he worked at Fisher Motor Co, Thermaseal Corp., the John Moses Veterans Hospital and Minot Air Force Base in the heating plant.
He married Evelyn Delborn on March 3, 1951, in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. In 1966 he moved his family to Bremerton, Wash., to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and retired from Shop 56 Pipe Shop in 1984.
He leaves: his wife of 58 years, Evelyn; sons, Paul and Jayme (Anita), all Port Orchard, Wash., and Gary, in Hawaii; daughters, Stacey (Mark) Habeck, Whidbey Island, Wash., Suzette (Craig, lovingly called Greg by Al) Peterson, Port Orchard, and Stephanie (Brian) McGuire, Bremerton. He also leaves 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his favorite sister-in-law, Betty Juel, Bellingham, Wash.; many nieces and nephews; and his sweet four-footed friend, Baby.
