Loyd Olin

Loyd Olin, age 94, of Crosby, N.D., passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Crosby.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Crosby, with Pastor Rob Garton officiating. Burial will follow at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Crosby. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home in Crosby and also Wednesday, one hour before the service, at the church.

Loyd was born on August 29, 1915, on the farm in Frazier Township, Divide County, the son of Ruben and Hannah (Engelson ) Olin. He attended country schools and graduated from Crosby High School. He was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church and was a member there until he transferred membership to Concordia Lutheran in Crosby.

On October 1, 1938, Loyd married Janice Nelson. They made their home on the family farm in Fraizer Township, raising cattle and small grains. In 1951, they moved into Crosby and farmed from town. Loyd was on the church council at the time the present church building was built.

Loyd enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. He always enjoyed assisting Janice with her babysitting duties and helping deliver the cakes she baked. He entered Good Samaritan Center in Crosby in July of 2007 and resided there until his death.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife Janice; one brother, Wilber, and two sisters, Edla and Clarice, all as children; and an infant granddaughter.

He is survived by: two daughters, Joan Overbo and husband Bud of Ashley, N.D., and Marie Neumann of Grand Forks, N.D.; three sons, Ron Olin of McHenry, Ill.,, Roy Olin of Crosby and Gary Olin of Redway, Calif.; three granddaughters, Liz Martz and husband Jeff of Denver, Colo., Jan Overbo of Huron, S.D., and Tracey Wishek and husband Robert of Ashley, N.D.; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Wishek, Adam Wishek and Anne Martz; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Stakston-Martin Funeral Home of Crosby is in charge of arrangements.
