Otto Patzer

Otto Patzer, 91, Harvey, formerly of Hurdsfield, died Thursday, November 26, 2009, at his home in Harvey. Funeral services will be at the Hurdsfield Community Center, Hurdsfield, at 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 30. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hurdsfield, N.D. Visitation will be today, November 29, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, N.D.

Otto was born on May 9, 1918, in New Leipzig, North Dakota. He was the son of Adam and Milicina (Knopp) Patzer. As a young child he moved with his family to a farm south of Harvey. As a young man he began farming with his father. Otto entered the United States Army on March 31, 1942, where he was in the Normandy Campaign and received a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on April 23, 1945.

Otto married Edith Baumbach on November 1, 1946, in Fessenden, North Dakota. They lived and farmed southeast of Hurdsfield. They moved into Hurdsfield, where he worked as custodian for the Hurdsfield Public School for many years. He then worked for the Wells County Road Department for many years until he retired.

He was a member of the Wells Eagles Aerie #3080 of Harvey and the American Legion Eddie Johnson Post #287 of Hurdsfield.

Otto is survived by: his wife, Edith of Hurdsfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Susann Patzer of Harvey, Brian and Ronda Patzer of Harvey; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Anne Hoff of Bowdon.

Otto was preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith; sisters, Maggie Rall, Ida Gardner and Irene Miller; and brothers, Rueben, Alfred, Selmer, Harold and Herbert.
