Olga Peterson

Olga Peterson, 91, Stanley, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, in a Stanley nursing home.

Olga was born May 24, 1918, at the Dobrovolny homestead in Debing Township, Mountrail County, to Joseph and Karoline (Stolfa) Dobrovolny.

She attended rural schools in the Manitou and Ross area before moving to Minot, where she graduated from Minot High. She attended Wahpeton vocational school. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a nursing degree, she joined the Army Nurse Corps, where she served for 2 years.

She married Gillis Howard Wright and together they had a daughter, Diane.

She trained as a Public Health Nurse at the University of Nebraska. She was the Mountrail County Public Health Nurse for 10 years, where she visited many homes and schools and other areas that needed health care.

In 1971, she received her Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist degree from Trinity Hospital in Minot. She was the anesthetist for Stanley and Tioga hospitals until her retirement in 1987.

Olga married John Peterson on April 12, 1973. They made their home in Stanley until his death in 1988. Olga entered the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley in 2004.

She was very active in the community. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Stanley, and assisted John with many 4-H activities. She enjoyed working at Flickertail Village, Stanley. She was proud to have served her country.

Olga's family meant everything to her. In addition to her daughter and granddaughters, she was very involved with her extended family of nieces and nephews and their families, and John's children.

Survivors: daughter, Diane (Rodney) Halvorson, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; granddaughters, Deanna (Todd) Nelson, Sauk Rapids, Minn., and Andrea (Jeff) Matson, Minneapolis, Minn.; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Alexander and Nicolas. She was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a great-granddaughter from South Korea. She is also surived by her brothers, Harry Dobrovolny, Lincoln, Calif., Joe Dobrovolny of Ross, Dick Dobrovolny, Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; and sister, Georgia Rice, Tucson, Ariz.; stepsons, Dean (Monica) Peterson, Belgrade, Mont., and their sons John and Douglas; Marty (Charlotte) Peterson, Park Rapids, Minn., and their daughters Jessica, Cassie and Anna; and Terry (Julie) Peterson, Omaha, Neb.; and their daughters Kathleen and Kayla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; stepdaughter, Lenore and her husband Wayne Wilkinson; sister, Valesta Krasen; and brothers, George, Fred and Robert.

Funeral service: Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran, Ross, N.D.

Visitation: Today, Nov. 29, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley, N.D.

There will be a memorial service in the spring with burial of cremains at Western Fraternal Cemetery, Ross.
