DICKINSON - Caroline Folven had 25 points and eight rebounds and MacKenzie Mack added 17 points and eight rebounds as Minot State University defeated Carroll College 70-48 in an NAIA women's college basketball game Friday at the Sam Milanovich Tournament.
Folven shot 12 of 19 from the field, while Mack shot 6 of 8 from the floor for the Beavers, who made 54.9 percent (28 of 51) of their attempts against the private catholic liberal arts college located in Helena, Mont.
"We got the ball inside and did a great job of finishing inside," MSU head coach Sheila Green Gerding said. "We also got great efforts from our posts again."
The Beavers attempted only three 3-pointers, but made two of them. Kallie Erickson made 2-of-2 3-pointers and finished with eight points. Ari Hendrix also chipped in eight points, while adding four assists and a game-high 11 rebounds. The Beavers outrebounded Carroll College 44-26.
"A lot of it was they missed so many shots and we did a good job on the defensive boards," Green Gerding said.
Alex Dunn had 13 points and was the high scorer for Carroll College, which shot 29.4 percent (20 of 68) from the field.
The Beavers, who led 30-22 at the half, made 11 of 20 free throws and outscored Carroll College 40-26 in the second half.
"We gave a great defensive effort (Friday)," Green Gerding said. "Carroll is a tough matchup. They have great shooters on perimeter and they try and pound it inside. We didn't give them open looks. Our defensive gave us a lot of energy."
Minot State (6-1) is looking for its fourth straight win when it plays Rocky Mountain College at 3 p.m. today at the Sam Milanovich Tournament.
