R.H. (Bud) Sherwin

R. H. (Bud) Sherwin, 86, of Harvey, formerly of Jamestown, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. Funeral services will be Saturday Nov. 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Bethany Lutheran Church, Harvey. Visitation will be at Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be at Highland Cemetery, Jamestown at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

Raymond Howard "Bud" Sherwin was born on May 25, 1923 at Barton, ND. He was the son of Edwin and Alma (Thompson) Sherwin. He grew up and attended country school in the Barton and Willow City area. He began working as a lineman for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company at Rugby. He entered the Army Air Corps during World War II and flew on 50 missions as the tailgunner in the bomber. After his honorable discharge he resumed working for Northwestern Bell in the Rugby and Bottineau areas. Bud married Marcella Morkert on June 27, 1948 at Leeds, ND. They lived in Bottineau, Harvey and moved to Jamestown in 1968. Marcella died on September 5, 1978. He retired in 1982 after serving 42 years with Northwestern Bell. He moved to Harvey in 1994 and resided at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home. Bud enjoyed square dancing, tinkering, remodeling and riding his motorcycle.

Bud is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Victor) Zerr of Harvey; sons, David (Carole) of Bismarck, Michael of Jamestown; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Elwood of Rugby; sister, Marion Guss of Minot. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Vernon, Ernest and Stanley; sisters, Helen McKee and Lucille Cote.
