Fargo South takes third place
By CHRIS?BIERI Sports Writer cbieri@minotdailynews.comSiri Burck knew playing her crosstown rival would be tough.
It didn't show in the Fargo South senior's play.
Burck smashed 24 kills as the Bruins topped inner-city rival Fargo North 3-1 (29-31, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20) to take third place in the State Class A Volleyball Tournament.
"It's hard, we played them a lot during the season," Burck said. "This is our fourth time this year, so it's difficult. They know what we do, we know what they do. Both teams played great."
Aside from the gaudy kill totals, Burck added five aces, three blocks, and 20 digs.
North took the first game 31-29, but South swept the final three games to take the win.
Burck said the third-place finish made for a successful finish for the Bruins.
"Definitely, we were ranked fifth most of the season in the East Region," Burck said. "To come out and have our peak at the end of the season was exactly what we wanted, to finish third in the state was a great finish for us."
Angela Waller had 19 kills and 20 digs for the Spartans.
