Minot Symphony Orchestra performs Saturday
Daily News StaffThe Minot Symphony Orchestra's 2009-10 concert season "Myths and Legends" continues Saturday with an Autumn Concert, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Minot State University's Ann Nicole Nelson Hall.
Under the baton of maestro Dennis Simons, the concert opens with two pieces from "The Fairy Queen," Henry Purcell's musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
The orchestra will next play the tale of Lt. Kije, a fictional Russian hero, told through the music of Serge Prokofiev.
Closing out the evening is Beethoven's "Symphony No. 6," known as the Pastoral Symphony, which conveys its composer's love of nature and simple rural life.
Admission is free for MSU faculty, staff and students with current I.D. and $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens, $10 for students and $5 for children under 12.
The remainder of "Myths and Legends" lineup includes the Family Concert Jan. 30, Spring Concert March 6 and a Pops Concert April 24.
