Geraldine Brosman
Nov. 1, 1929-Nov. 7, 2009Geraldine Yuk Yang Brosman, 80, Minot, and formerly of Glenburn, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, in a Minot hospital.
Geraldine was born Nov. 1, 1929, in Honolulu, to Joe Kong and Fannie (Ng Shee) Chang. She was reared in Honolulu, graduated from Roosevelt High School and from the University of Hawaii with a bachelor of arts degree in library science. She continued her education at Vanderbilt University and Peabody College, where she received a master's degree in library science. As a young adult she was employed at Brady and Johnson Air Force Bases in Japan and Torrejon Air Force Base in Spain.
Geraldine married Gilbert M. Brosman on April 27, 1963, in Torrejon, Spain. They, along with Gilbert's three children, made their home at various Air Force bases around the world prior to moving to Minot Air Force Base in 1965. She was employed as a librarian at those bases until her retirement in 1984. They had resided in Glenburn from 1979 until 1994, when they moved to Minot. They had resided in Tucson, Ariz., and in California during the winter months of their retirement years. Gilbert died March 2, 2000. Most recently she had resided in Minot.
Geraldine was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Minot Retired Military Association and was a former member of the American Library Association, Federal Librarians and the North Dakota Library Association. She was a former member of the Kalihi Union Church in Honolulu and had attended First Baptist Church in Glenburn and Immanuel Baptist Church in Minot.
Geraldine is survived by: her stepchildren, Judith (Jim) Bolduc, of Minot, and Allen (Sandy) Brosman, of Hammond, Ind.; grandchildren, Joann and Jason Brosman and David, Michael and Susan Bolduc; great-grandchildren, Erica and Christopher; sisters, Henrietta Kwong and Eleanor Bethel, both of Honolulu; brothers, Lawrence Chang, of Honolulu, and George Chang, of Medford, Ore.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Ernest Chang and Francis Chang; sister, Beatrice Chang; and daughter, JoAnn Leslie Brosman.
Funeral service: Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.
Interment: Will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.
Visitation: Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 2 to 7 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: Are preferred to Immanuel Baptist Church or to the American Heart Association.
