Marlene Newgard

MOHALL Marlene Joyce Newgard, 74, Mohall, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at a Minot hospital.

She was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Maxbass to Lyle and Katherine (Leding) Jensen. Marlene was raised in Maxbass, graduating from Maxbass High School in 1953. She was the oldest of four children. When Marlene was 6, her father passed away of heart complications and she was left to help her mother raise her and her three brothers. They lived on the family farm in Maxbass. When Marlene was 14, her mother married Frederick James Weber, who became her loving father.

Marlene taught at a country school in the Norma area for two years. She graduated from beautician college in Fargo, and went to work in Rugby. It was there that she met Dennis Newgard. They were married April 22, 1961, in Rugby. They lived in Rugby and Maxbass before settling in Mohall where they would raise their family.

Marlene was a member of United Methodist Church, Mohall. Marlene enjoyed making lefse, baking buns, canning, reading and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Family: loving husband of 48 years, Dennis Newgard, of Mohall; sons, Tim (Anita) Newgard, Battle Mountain, Nev., David Newgard, Tolley, Bruce (fiancee, Edna Greathouse) Newgard, Altoona, Pa., Mark (Rita) Newgard, Battle Mountain, Nev., DJ (Rua) Newgard, Colusa, Calif.; daughter, Brenda (Francis) Hall, Mohall; grandchildren, Dustin, Tyler, Josh, Jordan, Alyssa, Nicole, Andy, Mathew, Mckenzie and Brayden Newgard, and Corbin and Gannon Hall; brothers, Myron (Soon) Jensen, Santa Barbara, Calif., Jerry (Evelyn) Jensen, Las Vegas, Wally (special friend, Leahann Charnetzki) Jensen, Kenmare; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marlene was preceded in death by her father, Lyle Jensen; mother, Katherine Weber; stepfather, Frederick Weber; daughter-in-law, Laurie Newgard; and nephews, Dean and Scott Jensen.

Funeral: Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall.

Burial: Mohall Community Cemetery.

Family Service: Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Visitation: Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall.
