Kenneth G. Weber
March 25, 1933-Oct. 30, 2009Kenneth Galen "Ken" Weber, 76, 1333 S. Main St., Minot, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, in a Minot hospital.
Ken was born March 25, 1933, at Minot, the son of Ferdinand and Louise (Henke) Weber. He was raised on the family farm near Velva and graduated from Velva High School in 1951. He assisted his father with the operation of the farm during his younger years.
Ken became employed with Northern Improvement Co. of Fargo, before he entered into active duty service with the Army in 1953. He received his basic training at San Luis Obispo, Calif., and honorably served his country during the Korean War, when he was stationed in Germany with the Signal Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to the Minot area, where he began employment with Gamble Robinson Co., now Food Services Inc. He was employed with the company for more than 40 years until he retired as the warehouse foreman.
Ken was united in marriage to Rosella Mahoney on Nov. 11, 1955, at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva. From this union they had three children, Galen, Kay and Keith. After retirement, he continued with his scroll sawing and doing wood crafts, which he enjoyed a great deal until he became ill.
Ken was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. He was a life member of the Minot American Legion Post #26. He held a number of offices with the Legion, serving as post commander, district commander and department historian. He was also a life member of the Minot Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753. Ken will always be remembered for his hard work, positive attitude and willingness to help anyone.
His living family includes: wife of 53 years, Rosella; children, Galen (Donna) Weber, Glendale, Ariz., Kay (Brad) Brentrup, Minot, and Keith Weber, Minot; grandchildren, Kayla Rose and Aaron Brentrup, Minot, and Jason (Cindy) Reed of Arizona; great-granddaughter, Jordyn Reed; sister, Gloriann Skoglund, San Jose, Calif.; a very special part of the family, Brian Zahn of Texas; niece, Sheryl Ault; and great-niece, Christina Ault; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Eugene Skoglund.
Funeral service: Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment; Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Today, Nov. 3, from 2 to 7 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers or plants, the family prefers memorials to Bethany Lutheran Church or the CancerCare Center, both Minot.
