Tribal council to hold community meetings
The Three Affiliated Tribes business council plans to hold informational meetings in each of the six communities on the Fort Berthold Reservation this month. The meetings will begin Monday.
Marcus Levings, tribal chairman, said it has been his intention as tribal chairman along with the business council to provide annual updates to the tribal membership in the communities of Twin Buttes, Mandaree, Four Bears, New Town, Parshall and White Shield.
Levings also was elected regional vice president of the National Congress of American Indians executive council Oct. 14 during the NCAI meeting in Palm Springs, Calif.
The community meetings will cover major issues including the oil and gas development, law enforcement and housing. Various tribal and federal program departments administered by the tribe will have current information available to share with the tribal membership, in addition to representatives from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Environmental Protection Agency and the Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians.
The meetings, all beginning at 5 p.m., are as follows and dinner will be provided:
Monday, Oct. 19: Parshall Memorial Hall.
Tuesday, Oct. 20: White Shield Senior Citizens Center.
Wednesday, Oct. 21: Four Bears, location to be announced.
Thursday, Oct. 22: Twin Buttes Community Building.
Friday, Oct. 23: Mandaree Water Chief Hall.
Monday, Oct. 26: New Town Northern Lights Center.
