NEW ROCKFORD James Douglas Evanson, 88, New Rockford, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, in a Carrington hospital.

He was born March 18, 1921, to Jerome and Lulu Evanson in Northwood. He was drafted into the Army Signal Corps in June 1942 and served in Guadalcanal, Bougainville and the Solomon Islands until his discharge in 1945. He married Mary Hart on June 4, 1949, in Jamestown.

Survivors: sons, Charles, New Rockford, John, West Fargo, Doug, Redmond, Wash.; daughters, Emily Hilgers, Moorhead, Minn., Anna Hoffman, Williston; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral: Saturday, 2 p.m., United Methodist Church, New Rockford.

Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.

Prayer service: Today, 6:30 p.m., in Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Visitation: Today, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., in the funeral home.
