ARTS BRIEFS - Heritage Singers offer youth workshop
When a full chorus of voices hits a chord perfectly and holds it, the singers know it.
Minot's Heritage Singers know this elated feeling well, and will share it with a new generation in the third annual Young Men's Choral Festival.
More than 200 high schools in North Dakota and Montana were invited to take part in a full day of intensive training, followed by a public concert Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Minot State University's Ann Nicole Nelson Hall.
"We have Harold Eastburn, a graduate of MSU who's now a college director in Oregon as clinician," said Bob Briggs, festival chairman.
Briggs is a retired superintendent at Surrey, and directed the Elks Band for several seasons, besides singing with the Heritage Singers.
"We sent out music ahead of time for the participants to work with their music teachers in preparation," he said. "That's both the high schoolers and college men who are joining in. They will be receiving instruction, having rehearsals and finally performing for the public here. It's great to see the tradition of the Heritage Singers continue."
There is no charge for admission to the concert. Those interested can still contact Briggs at 839-7880 for information about participation, or e-mail him at bobbriggs@srt.com.
