Truck stop fire closes restaurant
A Tuesday morning fire at a Minot truck stop caused an evacuation of the building and closed down the restaurant portion of the business.
A fire started in the kitchen of Behm's Truck Stop, 3800 U.S. Highway 2 and 52 W., around 10:30 a.m. Burlington and Minot Rural fire departments responded to the blaze.
Minot Rural Fire Chief Rex Weltikol said the fire started in the exhaust hood system of the kitchen and was caused by grease buildup that ignited. The fire was contained to the exhaust hood system. There were no injuries.
The restaurant was still closed after the fire department left, but the gas station remained open, according to Weltikol. He estimates there is $2,000 to $3,000 worth of damage in cleanup costs and minor repairs to the exhaust hood system.
He said depending on how fast the area can be cleaned, the restaurant could open its doors to customers as early as today.
"It shouldn't take long to get cleaned up," Weltikol said. "Hopefully they're back in business tomorrow (Wednesday) morning."
