Four injured near Lakota
Four people were injured at about 1:10 p.m. Sunday in a two-vehicle crash at the junction of U.S. Highway 2 and N.D. Highway 1 near Lakota, according to a press release issued by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
A minivan driven by Chad Snell, 37, of Minot was traveling west on U.S. 2 when an unidentified white truck was crossing the westbound lanes of U.S. 2 to travel north on N.D. 1. Snell swerved to avoid the truck that pulled out in front of them, then struck a van driven by Luther Koapke, 64, of St. Thomas, who was waiting at the southbound stop sign of North Dakota Highway 1.
Snell, 37, and his passenger Becky Snell, 37, of Minot, were both injured, as were Koapke and Marie Koapke, 43, a passenger in Luther Koapke's vehicle. All were transported to Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake for treatment.
Logen Snell, 7, Alex Snell, 6, and Elisha Snell, 4, all passengers in the Snell vehicle, were not injured. Logen was wearing a seatbelt and the two younger children were both buckled into car seats. The adult Snells were also wearing seatbelts and airbags deployed, protecting them.
Neither of the Koapkes were wearing seat belts.
