Vergil Duhamel

Vergil D. Duhamel, 86, of Devils Lake, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Devils Lake, with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, today, Aug. 23, from 1 to 7 p.m. Visitation will be Monday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Vergil Delores Baker was born Nov. 3, 1922, the loving daughter of Clifford and Minnie (Bjorn) Baker, in Minot, N.D. She was raised and educated in Minot with her brothers and sisters. She often sang on the local radio station with her sister.

On June 21, 1942, Vergil was united in marriage to Lawrence "Larry" Duhamel prior to his deployment to Europe in World War II. Upon his return they lived in Minot, having three sons, Danny, Larry and Lanny. In 1954, they moved to Devils Lake and had their fourth son, Gary. Vergil was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

Verg was a homemaker as well as worked outside the home at Barkers, the Fashion Bug and Glicksons. She was known for her honesty to customers. Customers from many miles would call ahead of time to make sure Verg was working before making the trip to Devils Lake.

Verg is survived by: her sons, Danny Duhamel, Bismarck, N.D., Larry Duhamel, Minot, Lanny Duhamel, Devils Lake; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyth Wohlk, Garrison, N.D., Lorraine Anderson, Yakima, Wash., Madeline (Bob) Johnson, of Maglana Woods, Calif., Sharon Nelson, Minot; sisters-in-law, Vi Baker and Lois Baker, both of Minot.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gary; six brothers and one sister.
