If you are a veteran and are interested in being a member of a color guard for funerals, the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations would like to hear from you.
There's a shortage of color guard members available when needed for funeral services, so the two local veterans organizations are working together to have a combined color guard.
Arnie Havelka, commander of American Legion Post 26 in Minot, said they would welcome veterans who would like to participate in the color guard for funerals.
Randy Kramer is commander of the Minot VFW Post 753.
"Once we get started and as it expands, there will be times for us to get together," he said. Those get togethers would be for practices or to provide information to the members.
He said as recent as last week, a color guard made up of both American Legion and VFW members was provided for a local funeral.
The organizations are also working together with the North Dakota National Guard, he said.
Anyone interested in more information about the color guard can call Havelka at 340-2965 or e-mail him at ajhavelka@yahoo.com.
