Ruth Goranson

Ruth M. Goranson, 90, of Devils Lake, N.D., formerly of Oberon, N.D., died on Friday, August 7, 2009, at the Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake in the loving care of her family.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, Oberon, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Oberon.

Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, today, August 10, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Ruth Mildred Ege, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Lund) Ege, was born on September 1, 1918, near Lunds Valley, N.D., where she was reared and educated, graduating from Lunds Valley High School. After receiving her two-year teaching degree from Minot State College, Ruth taught in Palermo and Oberon.

Ruth was united in marriage to Carl E. Goranson on June 17, 1943, in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunds Valley. They established their home in Oberon. where they farmed side by side and raised their daughters. They retired in 1973 and spent many of the winter months in Arizona and Florida. In 1994 they moved to Devils Lake, where they made their home through the years. Carl died on January 15, 2001.

Ruth was a very active member of Calvary Lutheran Church and its women's organization. She served as the choir director and also as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a 4-H Leader, member of the Rebekahs, Sons of Norway and also the Oberon 55 Club.

Ruth enjoyed many pastimes including gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting and painting. She was determined to be computer literate and used the computer to keep up with happenings of friends and family. Ruth loved her faith, her family and her life, living each day with love, caring and compassion for all who were a part of her life.

Ruth is survived by: her daughters, Arlys (Ken) Nielsen, Park River, N.D., Dianne Maupin, Minot, N.D., Yvonne Ulland, Mayville, N.D.; grandchildren: Jesse (Kelli) Maupin, Savage, Minn., Kelly (Sherri) Nielsen, Fargo, Casey Ulland, Duluth, Minn.; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Peterson, Mesa, Ariz., Thelma (Ray) Hagen, Kennewick, Wash.; brothers, Alven (Evelyn) Ege, Minot, Orvin (Olga) Ege, Crosby, N.D.; and brother-in-law, Fred Rude of Kenmare, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; grandsons, Kris Nielsen and Cody Ulland; sisters, Alma Schultz, Edna Rude, Alvena Ege and Eleanora Ege; and brother, Eddie Ege.
