L. Corrine Herbel

Funeral services for Leola Corrine Herbel, age 75, of Bottineau, were held on Monday, July 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Glenn Berge. Elaine Freeman was the organist. Carsyn Soderstrom and Shane Parsons were the soloists. Casket bearers were Brook Soderstrom, Stephanie Herbel, Codi Rybchinski, Stuart Bullinger, Jordan Herbel, Jennifer Hoffman, Autumn Haas, Noah Swensen, Eric Herbel and Daisha Herbel. Burial was at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Leola Corrine Herbel, a daughter of Enos and Vera (Stratton) O'Shaughnessy, was born at Hamilton, N.D,, on July 24, 1934. She was reared in the Hamilton area and graduated from Hamilton High School.

On June 1, 1952, she was married to Marvin Herbel at Langdon. They moved to Bottineau in 1957. Corrine received her teaching certificate from Minot State College. In 1965 they purchased the Dairy Queen. They operated the restaurant until they sold it in 1977. She then worked at the Bottineau Courant for a time. Corrine worked at Cenex as a bookkeeper and later at the Turtle Mountain Lodge, Norway House and at Midwest Telemarketing Inc. Marvin passed away on May 1, 1999. Corrine retired in 2000. She had continued to make Bottineau her home.

She enjoyed cooking, shopping, dancing and traveling. Corrine was a member of First Lutheran Church in Bottineau and some of the ladies organization within the church.

Corrine passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009, in a Bottineau hospital.

She is survived by: three daughters, Shelley and her husband, Bruce Bullinger, of Bottineau, Shirley Swenson, and Barbara and her husband, Dennis Ramsey, all of Rolla; two sons, Kevin and his wife, Rebecca Herbel of Kramer; and Kim and his wife, Lisa Herbel of Bottineau; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Faye Melvin and Jean Swenson, both of Meza, Ariz., and Lillian Fisher of Grafton; four brothers, Bob O'Shaughnessy, and Ray O'Shaughnessy, both of Bismarck, Buz O'Shaughnessy of Alma, Mich., and Mike O'Shaughnessy of Grand Forks.

Corrine was a preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; a son, Curtis; and a grandson, Jamison.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
