Allan John Thomas, 72, passed away July 22, 2009, at his home in Bismarck.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no services.
Allan was born March 23, 1937, in Minot, North Dakota, to John Edward and Mabelle Victoria (Anderson) Thomas. The family soon moved to Larson and Heimdal, North Dakota, but returned to Minot where Allan attended school and graduated from high school. He played on the Minot High School basketball team when it won the State Class A championship in 1955. He served in the Army from 1955 until 1957.
He married Donna Jean Bowman in 1957. They had one daughter, Shelli Jo. After graduating from Minot State University in 1964, they moved to Hilmar, California, where Allan taught for two years. They moved to the San Francisco area where he became a computer programmer and worked for United Air Lines in that capacity. After semi-retirement, they moved to South Lake Tahoe where Allan worked for Caesar's Palace, and enjoyed boating on Lake Tahoe.
He returned to North Dakota in 1987, living for a time in Mandan and working for Basin Electric. He moved to Bismarck in 1989 and retired from Basin Electric when he had to quit working because of worsening multiple sclerosis.
He is survived by: his daughter, Shelli Thomas, and her husband, Jerry McDonough, South Lake Tahoe, California; sisters: Colleen Nelson, Mandan, and Marjorie (John) Proctor, of Clinton, Maryland. Also several nieces and nephews and their families: Rae Ann Meyer, Manning, Iowa, Scott Proctor, of Clinton, Maryland, David Nelson, Williston, Diane Bosworth, Mandan, and Jane Halverson, Bismarck.
The family will receive friends between 7 and 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at Allan's residence 428 East Brandon Drive, Bismarck.
