MDN Graphic - - Arts in the Parks concerts are free and open to the public. Minot Area Council of the Arts executive director Terri Aldrich suggests bringing your own chair. In the event of rain on Sunday, the concerts will move into the Maysa Arena. Inclement weather will cause today’s concert to reschedule to Tuesday in Oak Park.

Minot City Band Sousa Concert

Today, 7 p.m. Oak Park

John Philip Sousa, dubbed "The March King," did not invent the band. But his name evokes concerts on soft summer nights, playing children and community tranquility.

Jerry Spitzer, conductor of the Minot City Band, said he truly enjoys putting this concert together each year.

"I think the audience really likes it, too," he said of the usually most well-attended of the City Band's programs each season.

"Last year we had to cancel because of rain," he said. "There were so many comments, we decided this year if we couldn't play on Thursday because of the weather, we'd try again on Tuesday, even if it is during the State Fair."

Visual artist Paulette Dailey will be showing bricolage with Nancy Sommerfield and Julie Verry. The three re-create and re-purpose items as "found art." Bricolage is French for recycle.

JMB Band

Sunday, 4 and 7 p.m., Oak Park

The JMB Band is made up of three musicians as much in demand on their own as together.

Jerry Schlag, Myron Dammen and Merlyn "Bud" Witty have been together since 2006, and have produced several CDs, the latest of which are "Kickin' Back in North Dakota" and "Music Memories of North Dakota."

"Jerry is on the North Dakota Council of the Arts roster as a folk artist," said Terri Aldrich, executive director of the Minot Area Council of the Arts. "That's because he has worked so hard to keep the old-time music alive."

JMB Band music consists of old standards, country western, waltz and polka music.

Visual artist is Jason Gemar, whose photographs tell mini stories at a glance.
