Lauren Hendrickson tops the pyramids at the Club de Skinautique shows at Lake Metigoshe.

The 10-year-old from Minot is the youngest member this year of Club de Skinautique, the longtime water skiing organization at Lake Metigoshe, north of Bottineau.

The group gives annual shows at the lake and in 2007, celebrated its 50th anniversary of shows.

Lauren Hendrickson, 10, Minot, is the top one of the pyramid for the Club de Skinautiques at Lake Metigoshe, shown in this July 3 photo by Tanner Hall of the Lake Metigoshe Mirror. Lauren and the Skinautiques will perform again at the lake Aug. 8.

Lauren, who will be a 5th grader at Our Redeemer's Christian School in Minot this fall, just recently joined the group and already performed in the July 3-4 shows on the lake.

She said three people from Skinautiques saw her water skiing on the lake one day. Her mom, Molly Hendrickson, was driving their Jet Ski. That was about two weeks before the group's July 3-4 shows.

The Skinautique group came to them and asked if she'd like to try out for the group, which she did, Lauren said. "They asked me to go off the dock on the knee board you kneel on the dock and (are) strapped in and then they had me ski on one ski ... and then I skied with two skis."

She said they told her "like a day later" that she had been chosen to join the group.

Lauren practiced with the group several times before the July Fourth weekend shows.

"She's definitely had the least amount of practice," her mom said.

In the July 3-4 shows Lauren did three different types of pyramids. She said she "stood on top in all the shows."

"She did great on all of them," said her mom.

Lauren said there were a lot of people at the shows. "The hill was full," she said.

As for being afraid to perform in front of so many people, she said, "Not really. I got a little bit nervous at the beginning."

"I've been doing it (water skiing) for about three years," Lauren said.

"She's not scared one little bit," said Lauren's grandmother, Grace Hendrickson of Minot.

Lauren said she likes sports "a lot" and plays or has played basketball, volleyball, swimming, golf and gymnastics.

"She's really athletic," said her mom.

Lauren said all of her family members are involved in sports. Her parents, Eric and Molly Hendrickson, coach or help coach various sports and Lauren's two younger brothers, Matthew, 8, and Zachary, 5, also are involved in sports.

Lauren said of the July 3-4 Skinautique shows: "That was fun." She also plans to perform in next year's shows, she said.

Lauren will perform one more time this summer when Skinautiques have a show on Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at Lake Metigoshe.
