Funding totaling $11.5 million obtained for Minot AFB facilities
Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., announced Tuesday $11.5 million in funding has been obtained for construction of new facilities critical to the nuclear mission at Minot Air Force Base.
Dorgan, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, secured the funding in the fiscal year 2010 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations bill to construct a new missile procedures training operations facility and a munitions trailer storage facility at the Minot base.
The new facilities are critical to ensuring the security and continued viability of the nuclear weapons and Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles that are deployed at the base, said Dorgan
"Minot Air Force Base is a valued asset to the Air Force and the surrounding community," said Dorgan. "These new facilities will ensure that Minot is a key component of our nation's nuclear deterrent for many years to come."
The bill was unveiled Tuesday and given approval by the Senate Appropriations Committee. It next goes to the full Senate for consideration.
