POSTED: July 8, 2009

Irene Jones, 87, of Tioga, died Saturday evening, July 4, 2009, at the Tioga Long Term Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2008, at First Lutheran Church in Tioga. Reverend Sandy Anderson will officiate and interment will follow at Sunset Rest Cemetery in Ray.

Irene E. Anderson was born at Ray, ND, on April 25, 1922, to Carl and Clara (Nordquist) Anderson. She was raised in Ray and graduated from Ray High School. Upon her high school graduation, Irene moved to Fargo to attend Fargo Beauty College. When she finished her education in Fargo, Irene moved to Butte, MT, to live and work at a beauty shop with her sister, Lucille, and her cousin, Mildred Anderson. During World War II, Irene moved to Bremerton, WA, to work in the shipyards. While in Bremerton she rented a room from a Mrs. Jones who had a son named Danzley. The couple met and was married on Jan. 31, 1947, in Bremerton.

The couple returned to Ray in 1953 and the following year moved to Tioga, where Danzley established his plastering company. To this union three sons were born: Robert Eldon in 1947, Vernon Edwin in 1955, and Danzley Eric in 1957; sadly Danzley died as an infant.

Irene was passionate about knitting and crocheting. She loved to knit or crochet gifts and heirlooms for her many friends and family members. She was an active member of the Tioga First Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid, and played an active role in the building of the Church and the new Tioga Medical Center Building. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving Irene are: two sons, Robert (Darlene) of Napa, CA, and Vernon (Maye) of Minot, ND; five grandchildren, Dan (Brenda), David (Leslie), Devin (Laura), Jeremy (Stacy) and James; one great-grandson, Caleb, (with three more great grandchildren on the way).

Preceding Irene in death were her parents; her husband, Danzley; infant son, Danzley; two brothers, Alvin and Bud (Richard) Anderson; and two sisters, Lucille Wallin and Esther Charletta.

Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Tioga from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, and at the church on Friday for the hour preceding the service. Friends are also welcome to sign an online guest register and leave condolences at (www.fulkersons.com.)

Memorials: Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Building Fund or Tioga Long Term Care Center.
