Albert H. Bauer

Albert H. Bauer, 82, of Bismarck, died on June 5, 2009 in a Bismarck Care Center. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. at south campus of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Bismarck Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Albert was born on April 10, 1927 in Golden Valley, ND on the family farm to Karl and Magdalena (Daffee) Bauer. He was raised and educated in Golden Valley. He was drafted into the military in July 1945 and served in European Theatre until August 1948 and the Korean War from October 1950 to November 1951. On March 30, 1952 he married Irene Mueller in Golden Valley.

Albert worked as a carpenter at Four Bears Bridge, the Garrison Dam, the New York Seaway and dams in South Dakota. He then moved to Minot in 1963 and worked at the Air Base for various contractors. Albert then started working for Mattson Construction of Minot in August 1966 until his retirement in 1990.

Albert was a member of the Construction Union for many years, the American Legion, he served on the Urban Renewal Board, Germans from Russia and RSVP. When in Minot he was a member of the First Lutheran Church and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck.

On Feb. 9, 1996, he and Dorothy Melhouse were married at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Diana (Rick) Williamson, of Cheyenne, WY, Donna (Mike) Donahue, of Bismarck; one son, Jerry (Mary) Bauer, of Mandan; sister-in-law, Kate Bauer, of Beulah; one sister, Konnie Hagen, of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Irene, second wife, Dorothy; one brother, Eugene; six sisters, Pauline Siler, Maggie Synstegard, Malitta Schroeder, Esther Miller, Bertha Penn and Freida Reiner; and seven brothers-in-law.
