Harlan Nordloef, 76, rural Kenmare, passed into eternal peace on Sunday, May 17, 2009, on his farm west of Kenmare.

Harlan was born July 28, 1932, on the family farm in Vanville Township, Burke County, to Alice and Victor Nordloef. He attended Kandiyohi rural school and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1950. After graduating from high school he had several different jobs until he entered the Army.

He married Irene Poline in 1953 and they lived in Colorado until his discharge. Upon leaving the military he moved back to North Dakota and began a lifelong career in agriculture. He farmed land in Burke County as well as raised cattle. His partner in business was Irene, who worked side by side with him.

In addition to his career in raising cattle and farming, Harley was an accomplished musician. He played several instruments including the saxophone, piano and accordion. He had his own family band, Harlan's Band, of which his two daughters were members for more than 20 years. He also performed with various other local bands, including the Rhythm Skyliners and the Eklund Brother's Band.

Harlan was an avid sports fan who enjoyed hunting, trapping and following Minnesota Twins baseball. He also enjoyed following high school athletics.

Harlan's Family: Wife, Irene; daughters, Patricia Lund, Williston, Diane (Richard) Greutman, Fargo; grandchildren, Megan Lund, Jenna Lund, Brekka Lund, Michael Lund, Chelsea Greutman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Myron.

Funeral: Friday May 22, 2009, at 3 p.m. in the Elmdale Lutheran Church in Niobe.
