Darnell (Buchmiller) Tipton, 35, Harvey, ND, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at home. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Harvey. Visitation will be today, May 13, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.

Darnell Dean Tipton was born October 26, 1973, in Harvey, to Dennis and Brenda (Schmidt) Tipton. Darnell was later adopted by James Buchmiller. Darnell grew up on a farm near Bowdon with his mom, Brenda, and Jim. While in high school he attended Boys State. He graduated from Bowdon High School in 1992.

He joined the North Dakota National Guard in 1992 and served in the Carrington unit until 2000. While in the National Guard, he was a combat engineer and served as a Personnel Administrative Assistant. He also attended the University of Mary in Bismarck and played on the Marauder basketball team. He later worked for Faul Manufacturing and Harvey Sand and Gravel in Harvey.

He married Jessica Jo Lang on July 6, 2002, in Harvey. Together, they had two sons, Tyson and Teagan. He began working as a conductor for the Canadian Pacific Railroad in Harvey in 2003. Darnell was a great father and loved playing with his sons. He enjoyed playing amateur basketball, riding his Harley and was an Oakland Raiders fan. He was very creative which was expressed by his drawing and painting. He had the knack for fixing motors or whatever was broken. He also enjoyed working in the yard.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Harvey, the United Transportation Union and the Wells Eagles Aerie.

He is survived by: his wife, Jessica; sons, Tyson and Teagan, at home, son, Brent Buchmiller, and daughter, Breanna Buchmiller, both of Sandpoint, Idaho; mother, Brenda Buchmiller of Fargo; adoptive father, James Buchmiller, and his wife, Kathy, of Bowdon; stepmother, Sherry Tipton of Mandan; grandmother, Helen Schmidt of Harvey; brothers, Jeremy (Anita) Tipton, Mandan, Shanon (Shelly) Buchmiller and Dustan Buchmiller, all of Hurdsfield, Shane (Jennifer) Buchmiller of North Muskegon, Michigan, Jereme (Amanda) Buchmiller, of Harvey; sisters, Amy Tipton, and fiance, Jess Morse, of Minot, Tina (Kevin) Kooren, Moorhead, Minnesota, Tami (Mike) Feist, of Harvey; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Tipton, in 2006; grandparents, Adelbert and Ruby Tipton, Ronald and Irene Buchmiller, Arnold Schmidt; and an uncle, Steve Schmidt.
