May 10, 2009
By Whitney Pandil-Eaton

The National Agricultural Statistics Service, an arm of the United States Department of Agriculture, is conducting the first ever Organic Production Survey as a follow-up to the 2007 Census of Agriculture which found more than 20,000 farms engaged in organic production. The survey will be mailed out to all known U.S. organic producers in early May with a response deadline of June 17 and will look at numerous aspects of organic farming from production and marketing practices to income and expenses. All information gathered in kept confidential and the results will be published in early 2010. For more information, visit (www.agcensus.usda.gov).
