Gordon Alexander Forsberg, 82, Bradwardine, Manitoba, formerly of Souris, ND, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, in Deloraine, Manitoba.

Gordon was born on January 14, 1927, to Ernest and Ella (Billehus) Forsberg in Dalen Township. He was raised on a farm near Souris, ND. He attended a one-room schoolhouse through grade eight. Gordon farmed in 1947 and 1948 before entering the armed services.

Gordon served in the United States Army in the Korean War from December 1949 through December 1951 and seven years following that of inactive duty. While stationed in Okinawa he served as an Army cook. He took pride in his cooking abilities and serving his country.

In December 1954 he was united in marriage to Edna (Bennett). Gordon farmed and raised his family in rural Souris, ND. This marriage later ended.

Gordon was active in church in the Turtle Mountain Lutheran church, rural Souris, ND, for many years. He served as a supervisor on the Dalen Township, as well as a member of the Farmers Union Co-op while actively farming.

Gordon immigrated to Canada in August of 1980. He worked for Superior Cheese at Souris, Manitoba. He left there and began farming in Elphinstone, Manitoba. He also farmed off and on and worked in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Gordon settled and made his home in Bradwardine, Manitoba. He was a man who loved to work on the land, make machinery, and use his hands to build.

Those who shared in his life: Children, Russel (Patti) Forsberg of Edgewater, FL; Rodney (Valerie) Forsberg of Buford, GA; Jeffrey (Sharron) Forsberg of Omaha, NE; John (Loretta) Forsberg of Bottineau, ND; Lisa King of Casper, WY; 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys (Olaf) Berge; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Ernest; mother, Ella (Billehus); and brother, Eugene.

Funeral service: Monday, May 11, at 2 p.m. at Community Bible Church, 125 Sinclair St., Bottineau, ND.

Interment: following in the Turtle Mountain Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Souris, ND. (Carbury)

Visitation: Sunday, May 10, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at Nero Funeral Home, 402 Sinclair St., Bottineau, ND.

For those unable to attend at Bottineau services, a time of visitation will be held at Campbell Funeral Chapel, Hamiota, MB on Saturday, May 9, at 5 p.m.

For those so desiring, donations may be made in Gordon's memory to the Kenton Leisure Club, Kenton, MB, R0M 0Z0.
