Helen Sather

Helen O. Sather, age 91, of Crosby, ND, and formerly of Williston and Fortuna, ND, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Crosby.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009, at Writing Rock Lutheran Church in Alkabo, ND, with Pastor Ron Dahle officiating. Burial will follow at the Writing Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 7, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home in Crosby and also one hour before the service at the church.

Helen was born on July 24, 1917, near Northgate, Sask., Canada, the daughter of Ole and Hilma (Troseth) Seim. She moved to Noonan in 1923 and then to the Fortuna area in 1929.

Helen married Adolph Sather on November 24, 1937. They lived in Clinton Township for 37 years. In 1974, they moved to Williston, where she continued to live until 2006, when she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center of Crosby. Adolph passed away on May 11, 1997.

Helen was known to be an excellent cook. She was especially known for her lefse, donuts and cherry nut cakes. Her cherry nut cakes made many birthdays very special for family members and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles.

She was a member of the Good Sam RV Club, Writing Rock Church and First Lutheran Church of Williston.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adolph; brothers, Alfred and Clarence; and sisters, Clara Raaum and Anna Mae Holmquist.

She is survived by: her two daughters, Phyllis Roth of Williston and Beverly DeJardine of Fortuna; grandchildren, Mike (Shelby) Roth of Alexandria, MN, Sharla Slater of Williston, Brian (Shari) DeJardine of Fortuna and Joel (Jean) DeJardine of Crosby; eleven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Orville Raaum of Williston; nieces and nephews; and a very special cousin, Fern Wallin of Crosby.

Stakston-Martin Funeral Home of Crosby is in charge of arrangements.
